British Rally Champion Mark Higgins ran the 37.8 miles in a factory Subaru Impreza WRX STI and set a record time of new rounds of 19 minutes and 56.7 seconds. The previous lap record at the Isle of Man TT circuit was created by Tony Pond, June 6, 1990, driving a Rover 827 Vitesse. It was also the first driver to break the average speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
Subaru says the Impreza WRX STI used to record new special is a standard vehicle, driven by the cylinder horizontally opposed Boxer engine that develops 300 hp. Subaru is also said to use standard brake calipers and road legal Trophy Pirelli P Zero tires. However, the springs and dampers of the WRX STI have been adjusted to minimize the effects of all the bumps and jumps in the circuit.
Subaru Impreza WRX STI has been equipped with several safety features, such as MSA spec cage T45 integrated belts TRS and breed Extinguishing System Lifeline. In a spectacular 'soundtrack', also with Subaru Impreza WRX STI with a high-decibel exhaust system.
